About Our Family-Friendly Children’s Sports Club

The Philosophy of the Suncoast Sports Club, Inc., is very simple. Children deserve the right to play sports just for fun. Children should be allowed to interact with other children in an adult-supervised, fun, sports environment. Children should always enjoy sports and have fun learning how to play each sport while learning essential skills. The rules of each sport are not crucial in the early stages (3 to 6 years of age) because too much is too much. How can it be fun if you have to learn all these rules? If an official blows the whistle every two or three minutes for an infraction, when do the children just learn how to play? You learn to play by playing; we believe each sport should have a clinic where each child can see how things should be done, then step back and let them learn; by age seven or eight, the children start to learn the rules and have confidence in their ability to play by the rules. Give the kids a break, and let them have some fun.

Does our philosophy work? We started in 1998 with forty to sixty children and now have over three hundred playing eight different sports. Soccer, Flag Football, Tee-ball and coach pitch, basketball, golf, tennis, and Lacrosse. We are the largest sports club for children in Sarasota County. We are not the largest league but the largest sports club.

Our Purpose

To continue our efforts in the sports arena, to ensure that every child who wants to play sports is given the opportunity. That all children be allowed to play together without having to be the best or win the most.

Tips for Suncoast Sports Club's Parents

Always remember to arrive fifteen minutes before game time. Children should always wear uniforms and have the proper equipment. This helps children know where their team is playing.
If you do not know your coach's name, please ask; some parents go through the entire season and do not know the coach's name.
It also helps to know what your team's name and number is (giants, team #1), Sting Rays, 5, and under, team # 3. This will allow you to check the website to see what time you play.
The Suncoast Sports Club League is not designed to turn out little league ball players; It is designed to allow the parents and players an opportunity to come out on a Saturday morning and have some fun, be on a sports team with uniform, and enjoy the social part of the game, meet new friends, and be with mom and dad. Parents should support both teams during a game and always use positive words for the players and coaches.
We do not keep team standings, we do not keep official scores, and we make every attempt to let the children learn and play on their own; if a player decides not to play, it is ok; maybe next week will be a better time, Suncoast Sports Club is popular because we allow the children to learn at their pace, positive coaching, and fun is what has made the difference in all our sports. Parents should enjoy the social part, and that is why we make every effort to place players who know one another on the same team.
